You have to use flowers! NOT

So we all know once the dress, venue, colors, etc are all picked out.. then the question of centerpieces and decorations arises. Making your wedding actually LOOK beautiful is difficult, but it can be done.  A great way to spice it up is to stray away from only using flowers. You might say "Say whaaat!?" Well, hear me out... Flowers are beautiful, but they are expensive... and they die.  In order to make your reception look beautiful try these different ideas that will definitely surprise your guests and save you some money!
Fresh Citrus for Summer Weddings!

"Pick" some fruits or veggies! Beautiful yellow lemons with other citrus fruits makes a summer wedding really refreshing and bright.  Deep purple eggplant with green/purple artichokes, purple cabbage or radishes look gorgeous and regal. Beautiful nectarines, peaches or plums will give off a sweet aroma and beautiful warm orange/red shades.  Even nicely potted herbs will give your table a nice green feeling.  You can even choose herbs who's aroma increases your guests' appetite (perfect before dinner!) making your whole venue appetizing.

If you want an even more outdoors idea... use nature! Any kind of wood like twigs or branches are great for a woodland fairy fantasy.  You can get super creative and include beautiful rocks with different shades, pine cones and any other kind of greenery like moss.  If you are going for a more beach inspired wedding, use sand (preferably within some sort of container- no one wants a sandy mouth!), shells, starfish and sandglass.  If you go the natural route, it might be a fun thing to do with your fiance.  You can both go on a hunt for your centerpieces, enjoy the outdoors and de-stress together.  Rather than having just those on your table, spruce things up with gorgeous ribbons or sparklessss.  But make sure that once you do get everything.. keep it bug free! :)

If you want to put a personal spin on it, use something that signifies a hobby that you both share.  Maybe you met in a bookstore, or you are both teachers.  Use all of those old books you have collecting dust and use those for your centerpieces. You can even test out small bookstores that sell beautiful vintage novels for as low as $1 each! Wrap them with ribbons or use different shimmering covers, like gold, to cover a few in order to keep a theme going.

I have also seen couples add their love for travel into this idea with mini globes, travel guides to different cities, or mini trinkets added to each table.  Ie. Use cacti instead of flowers for a desert location, a mini eiffel tower and barrette for Paris, white tipped pine cones for a wintery destination, even books covered with sand and shells for a beachy destination like Thailand. (translates great for seating cards too.. make your guests travel to a diff location!) Have fun with it! Some of you still might prefer flowers for your table decorations, but you can't justify the price.  A nice compromise is ...potted plants! You might be paying the same price, but at least these flowers can outlast your reception.  Guests can take them home, doubling as favors! Killing two birds with one stone is always accepted when planning a wedding.  The blooms can even signify a new start just like your union.

Now, we all have our favorites, and my all time favorite.. candles! Love love looove candle details.  With every centerpiece idea mentioned you can integrate candles and flowers in different ways.  They add extra romance to your entire room.  By using more candles than other details, you will give your room a warm glow that most guests do not expect.  Some people keep them white because white does match everything, BUT I say be free from white! If you do not want to use anything else besides candles, use color! Colorful candles will give you pop and substitute the need for a bright floral arrangement.   Whichever you choose, try to find one detail that no one expects and go with it.  Don't hesitate.. have fun!
