Wedding Gown Silhouettes

Finding the perfect wedding dress begins with finding the right shape for your body. There are five basic gown shapes, including trumpet, mermaid, sheath, a-line, and ball gown. Once you've narrowed down to one silhouette, deciding on a combination of materials and details is easy! At The Bustle, our bridal stylists will help you find the right fit for your wedding day. Click here to make an appointment today!

Trumpet This is a fitted style that begins flaring out just below the hips. It shows off your curves enough while still giving you enough walking space to dance the night away!

Mermaid This style is great for brides who want something a little more dramatic to show off their curves! It's more fitted than a trumpet fit, and begins flaring out at the knee or lower.

Sheath This is slim fitting style perfect for brides who want a sleek and effortless look! It hugs your body head to toe, and is a great silhouette for wanting to elongate your figure.

A-line This is universally flattering on every figure! It's fitted at the bodice to show of the smallest part of your waist, and flares out from there. It looks especially great on brides who want to conceal their fuller hips, or for brides with a sporty figure who want to create the illusion of curves.

Ball Gown  This shape is fitted at the bodice, with a dramatic full skirt. If you love this look, go for it! Where else besides your wedding can you dress like a princess? :)

The Wedding Planning Secrets No One Tells you

Brides-to-be!  Don't let the wedding planning blues get you down!  We know that planning the biggest, most important day of your life can be a little daunting (no pressure, right?) but here's how to get your perfect day without all the stress. 75_Bride-Prep The number one secret that nobody tells you about planning your wedding is that it doesn't have to be one hundred percent perfect.  It's a day to celebrate the love between you and the person you've chosen to spend the rest of your life with. With so much pressure put on a bride to have a picture-perfect fairytale wedding, it's easy to see why it can kind of bum you out.  Our best advice is to be flexible! If it rains on your big day or your veil tears before you put it on- just let it roll off your back because if at the end of the day, you end up married you have succeeded! Olivia1 Our next tidbit to save your sanity is that your wedding doesn't need to go according to everyone else's plan.  We know that Mom really wants you to wear her dress because it was so important to her and that your aunties will have a fit if they don't get the traditional dry white cake at the end of the night.  But the important thing to remember is that your day should reflect who you and your fiance are as a couple- so if you want to hire a taco truck in lieu of a standard sit down meal, or have your dog as your flower girl, go right ahead.  Your aunties will understand that it's your day, and they might even have (gasp) fun!  If you want to do a backwards wedding where you party first then have the ceremony at the end of the night, or wear a colored gown and walk down the aisle to rock 'n roll, then You. Go. Girl. b3 Ultimately, what we want all of our amazing brides-to-be to know is that your wedding is a celebration.  Don't let other's opinions of what they think your wedding should be keep you from having a day that is unique to you.  If you're feeling pressured to have an over-the-top wedding to impress people, take a step back and make sure that's what is really important to you.  Your guests will have gone to dozens of weddings that look all the same so why not infuse a little of your personalities into your big day to keep them on their toes and make it a day that will be special to you!

New Versus Sample Gowns

There's a home for every wedding dress whether it's brand new or a sample. We have brides at The Bustle saying yes to their dream gown and purchasing off-the-rack all the time! The decision is all based on personal preference. While there are pros for ordering a brand new dress, there are also many perks for getting a sample. We've outlined a few advantages to consider when shopping and trying on gowns. (:sample photos Pros for Ordering a New Dress
  • You aren't limited to styles when trying on gowns since there are new designs every season!
  • Since you're placing an order on a brand new dress, it will be in pristine condition
  • Measurements are taken to order a gown closest to your size. There's no need to worry about altering a gown two sizes too big
  • Some designers give options to customize parts of the dress when ordering. It'd be awesome to make the dress to match your personal style (:
Pros for Purchasing a Sample Gown
  • Getting a gown off-the-rack means massive savings! You'll be paying a less for a similar gown at a much higher price
  • You have a gown to begin alterations right away. This is important if you have a short timeline with a wedding coming up within the next few months
  • Aside from cleaning, alterations (hem and bustle) will be about the same as purchasing a new dress
  • Nobody will know you didn't purchase a brand new dress unless you tell them (;
