Wedding Gown Silhouettes

Finding the perfect wedding dress begins with finding the right shape for your body. There are five basic gown shapes, including trumpet, mermaid, sheath, a-line, and ball gown. Once you've narrowed down to one silhouette, deciding on a combination of materials and details is easy! At The Bustle, our bridal stylists will help you find the right fit for your wedding day. Click here to make an appointment today!

Trumpet This is a fitted style that begins flaring out just below the hips. It shows off your curves enough while still giving you enough walking space to dance the night away!

Mermaid This style is great for brides who want something a little more dramatic to show off their curves! It's more fitted than a trumpet fit, and begins flaring out at the knee or lower.

Sheath This is slim fitting style perfect for brides who want a sleek and effortless look! It hugs your body head to toe, and is a great silhouette for wanting to elongate your figure.

A-line This is universally flattering on every figure! It's fitted at the bodice to show of the smallest part of your waist, and flares out from there. It looks especially great on brides who want to conceal their fuller hips, or for brides with a sporty figure who want to create the illusion of curves.

Ball Gown  This shape is fitted at the bodice, with a dramatic full skirt. If you love this look, go for it! Where else besides your wedding can you dress like a princess? :)

New Versus Sample Gowns

There's a home for every wedding dress whether it's brand new or a sample. We have brides at The Bustle saying yes to their dream gown and purchasing off-the-rack all the time! The decision is all based on personal preference. While there are pros for ordering a brand new dress, there are also many perks for getting a sample. We've outlined a few advantages to consider when shopping and trying on gowns. (:sample photos Pros for Ordering a New Dress
  • You aren't limited to styles when trying on gowns since there are new designs every season!
  • Since you're placing an order on a brand new dress, it will be in pristine condition
  • Measurements are taken to order a gown closest to your size. There's no need to worry about altering a gown two sizes too big
  • Some designers give options to customize parts of the dress when ordering. It'd be awesome to make the dress to match your personal style (:
Pros for Purchasing a Sample Gown
  • Getting a gown off-the-rack means massive savings! You'll be paying a less for a similar gown at a much higher price
  • You have a gown to begin alterations right away. This is important if you have a short timeline with a wedding coming up within the next few months
  • Aside from cleaning, alterations (hem and bustle) will be about the same as purchasing a new dress
  • Nobody will know you didn't purchase a brand new dress unless you tell them (;

After you say “I Do”

Bummed bride   You've said I do, and cut your cake- Now the wedding is over and you're feeling pretty bummed.  What's next if all the fun is over? Here are a few things you can do to beat the post-wedding blues! Preserve your Gown Wedding gown preservation is one of the most important things to do after the wedding since your dress gets so dirty during a wedding from dirt, to makeup, to that last glass of red wine you probably shouldn't have had- you probably need to have it cleaned.  When you choose to get your gown cleaned with The Bustle, they clean the stains on your gown AND protect it from futher damage from the sun, yellowing, and aging! You can even include accessories, and the best part is that you don't even have to leave your house or find a cleaner.  You can have Fed Ex pick up your gown in the box provided at time of purchase and then they'll deliver it all wrapped up in a few weeks!  It seriously can't even get any easier! Blog B2 Save or Press your Bouquet Here's a question we get asked all the time: What should I do with my bouquet after the wedding? Can I save it? The answer is yes, and since you paid so much money for it, you want it to last past its freshness date! To preserve your entire bouquet, hang it upside down tied by a string around the stems, after removing all the fresh foliage and leaves. It needs to dry out for at least a few weeks in a dark, dry place. You can then put it in a shadowbox.  Alternatively, you can press a few buds in the pages of a book with wax paper.  If you don't preserve your flowers, you can donate them to a local hospital or nursing home after the wedding while they're still pretty. Blog B3 Change your Last Name This is a tricky one, and it involves a bit of work on your part.  The first step is to fill out an application for a new Social Security Card, which you need to have all your legal documents on hand for, including your driver's license, birth certificate, and of course your marriage license. From here, it's pretty smooth sailing but you do have to change everything individually.  Don't forget things like bank accounts, credit cards, online accounts, doctor's offices, and billing documents.  It's definitely a lot of work, so this should keep you busy for a while.  There are services to help you along the way, but they really only provide glorified instructions on what to change, you still have to do most of it yourself. Good luck! Blog B5 Relax, and Enjoy Being Married! It's no secret that planning a wedding can be a little stressful, so try to focus your new free time on your new spouse and enjoy your new married life together.  If you find yourself searching for something to fill the hole that wedding planning left, find a new hobby that makes you happy. Try to appreciate the little things in life, like hanging out and watching Netflix instead of  having to call the caterer and florist daily to make changes! Your wedding is one of the best memories you will ever have, but don't forget to continue to make memories and just enjoy every minute of your time together! P.S. your wedding album is still there for you to relive every. wonderful. detail. Blog B6   Photo Credit: Google
